506,834. Sand-blast; rumbles. TILGHMAN'S PATENT SAND BLAST CO., Ltd., and ANKERS, R. T. Dec. 9, 1938, No. 34070/37. [Class 60] A machine for cleaning castings &c. comprises a perforated drum a, which is oscillated about its axis by crank mechanism b, the axis being inclined so that articles fed to the upper end of the drum at k will move to gaps e at the lower end for discharge to a shoot f. The upper part c of the drum is open so that abrasive, which may be metal shot or sand, may be projected on to the articles in the drum by a throwing-wheel d, which receives the abrasive from. a shoot g. Used abrasive passes down a hopper h to an elevator i, by which it is passed, by way of a revolving sieve j back to the wheel d. The drum oscillates within curved enclosing walls, which prevent the articles from leaving the drum as this oscillates, and also cause rebound of the abrasive into the drum.
