Abstract
1305315 Abrading BOHLER & CO AG Gebr 19 April 1971 [13 Feb 1970] 21781/71 Heading B3D Elongated stock, e.g. wire, to be cleaned, is drawn through an agitated body of particulate scouring agent, e.g. pumice, blast-furnace slag or gravel, and a liquid is continuously applied to the scouring agent to entrain abraded particles, which are thus withdrawn, together with the liquid, from the body of scouring agent. As shown, the scouring agent is retained in a drum having a sieve-like wall 6 and rotatably mounted on trunnions 12, 13. The liquid, e.g. water, is applied by a spray pipe 20. The wire is fed through apertures 16, 17. Scouring agent is prevented from passing through aperture 17 by compressed air supplied at 18. The drum is rotated by a motor-driven sprocket (not shown) engaging a sprocket 5. The inside surface of the drum is formed with blades, Fig. 3 (not shown), for agitating the scouring agent, and a section of the drum wall is hinged to permit access to the drum interior.
