Abstract

506,439. Valve modulating circuits. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES. Jan. 21, 1938, No. 2098. Convention date, Jan. 21, 1937. [Class 40 (v)] A high-frequency magnetron generator is substantially fully modulated without causing cessation of oscillation by applying to two anodes or anode groups different D.C. potentials and varying them in opposite directions by means of the modulation, so that the slope of the negative part of the characteristic which corresponds to high frequency operation remains unchanged. The anode segments 22, 23 receive different positive voltages with respect to the cathode 28 from batteries 24, 25 through chokes 26, 27 ; and modulating potentials are applied from a source 33 in push-pull to the anode segments by means of a transformer 31. In other arrangements, Figs. 9, 10 (not shown), batteries 24, 25 are replaced by arrangements of batteries with tappings. The same results may also be obtained by simultaneously varying several electrical values. Thus the anode current can be varied by modulating the total emission current, and the change in 'slope of the negative resistance characteristic can be compensated by simultaneous variation of the magnetic field, or the total anode voltage, or one segment voltage.
