Abstract

506,195. Revolving-cylinder reciprocating piston pumps, HYLAND, C. Jan. 19, 1938, No. 1743. [Class 102 (i)] A revolving-cylinder reciprocating piston pump comprises an annular series of circumferentially displaced radial cylinders 1 so distanced apart axially that they revolve in different and independent planes, and each of the cylinder pistons 3 is operated or controlled by a separate or independent eccentric track ring 4 which encircles the rotor 2. Each piston 3 may be maintaimed in contact with its eccentric ring 4 by spring loading, or it may be coupled thereto by a ball-and-socket or other pivotal joint 7 or by a sliding coupling. The rings 4 are revolvably mounted through anti-friction bearings 5 in a common bearing member 6, and their eccentricity may be varied to control the output of the pump, or to reverse it, by moving the bearing member. 6 across the axis, of the rotor by means of an eccentric 17 having associated locking means. The output of the pump may also be controlled by means of a floating valve 10 on an axial extension 2x of the rotor 2, the valve. 10 being of the kind described in Specification 441,760, [Group XXIX].
