Abstract
505,925. Moulding lampshades &c. by dipping &c. GODFREY, N. C. Dec. 8, 1937, No. 34018. [Class 87 (ii)] In manufacturing decorative articles, such as lampshades, vases or other ornaments, a former 5 is placed within a framework 1 and is inflated to contact therewith or protrude therethrough, and a covering is formed by depositing a solution of gelatine, glue, wax, oil or other liquid coating composition on the former which is finally deflated and withdrawn. The former may be a bladder of rubber or oiled silk. The framework may be of wire, string or other non-extensible material and is connected by rings 2 to a holder 3 carrying a valve 4 for inflating the bladder 5. The material may be deposited by dipping, spraying or pasting. During dipping, the former and framework may be rotated. The covering may be dried before removal of the former; it may be hardened by dipping in formaldehyde solution. With gelatine, there may be added plasticizers such as glycerine or glucose, material forming an emulsion to give an opalescent appearance such as wood oil or rubber latex, and colouring matter.
