Abstract
505,836. Moulding lenses &c. from synthetic resin. FRITZ, R. Oct. 13, 1937, Nos. 27872 and 27873. Convention dates, March 22, 1937 and Sept. 11, 1937. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, April 18, 1938.] Drawings to Specification. [Class 87 (ii)] Optical lenses and prisms, particularly ophthalmic lenses, are moulded from trans. parent, thermoplastic, organic substances in moulds of glass or quartz. The glass mould may be secured to a metal support and may have an interposed gypsum layer. The mould is polished to give the required lens surface. The organic substance may be a vinyl or acrylic ester. The mould may be heated or the heated material may be pressed between cold moulds. Specification 482,836 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 includes also moulds formed of crystal such as Iceland spar, fluorspar or tourmaline, and refers to injection-moulding, to the use of polystyrene and cellulosic derivatives and to the manufacture of contact lenses. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
