[Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Groups XVI and XX] The surface of a body is provided with a series of spiral or concentric grooves of increasing inclination to form a Fresnel lens. The grooves may be engraved directly on the surface or they may be pressed on by a stamper formed by electrotyping from a wax mother. The body may be a transparent sheet of cellulose acetate or artificial resin and may have one surface rendered diffusing or it may be united to a glass backing sheet which may be diffusing. The sheet may also be silvered on the back or front. If desired the stamping dies may be produced by hardening an engraved soft body such as cellulose acetate or silica gel.
