Abstract
505,565. Inflammable-gas detectors. OLDHAM & SON, Ltd., and HOLT, JUN., H. Nov. 11, 1937, No. 31020. [Class 1 (i)] Apparatus for detect ing inflammable gases comprises a housing 17 formed on a battery cover, a pair of angularly arranged bimetallic strips 4, 5 in said housing normally contacting with each other and arranged in circuit with a battery 1, lamp 3, and switch 2, a catalytic wire 10 adjacent to one of the strips and a resistance-wire 11 closely wound round the other strip, and a chimney 22 arranged to shield the catalytic strip. Variations in the battery potential affect both strips similarly, but inflammable gas burning on the filament 10 causes the .strips to break contact thus inserting a resistance 13 in the lamp circuit.
