Abstract
485,121. Thermal switches. ELLISTON, C. E. Nov. 19, 1936, No. 31689. [Class 38 (v)] A normally open electric circuit incorporating an indicating device forms a fire alarm system, being closed upon the establishment of combustion at any point in the circuit. An inner conductor 1 carries spring members 2 which are enclosed in a tube 3 of celluloid or other insulating combustible material, round which is lapped another conductor 4, the whole being enclosed in a further inflammable sheath 5. The whole may be made of any convenient length, combustion of the sheath at any point allowing contact between spring members 2 and conductor 4 to operate an indicating device or fire-quenching apparatus, collars 6 of a non-inflammable material such as asbestos, localizing burning of the sheath.
