Abstract
504,807. Vitreous enamelling. INGRAND, M. E. July 23, 1937, No. 20417. Void. Convention date, July 27, 1936. [Class 56] A process for enamelling a metal sheet consists in roughening both surfaces of the sheet, preferably by sandblasting, and applying and firing a coat of enamel on both surfaces to prevent the sheet from bending during cooling. A second coating of enamel is then applied and fired. Finally, a metal such as gold, silver, or bronze is applied to the surface to be decorated, either in powder or liquid form, and the sheet is again fired so that the metal becomes dispersed in the second coat of enamel and forms more or less regular designs. The metal may be applied, if desired, simultaneously with the second coat of enamel. In a modification, the second coat consists of a mixture of two enamels which fuse at different temperatures, and the application of the metal in this case results in a cracked or stippled appearance on the finished article.
