Abstract

503,903. Electrodeposition of chromium. BOSCH GES., R. Oct. 14,1938, No. 29755. Convention date, Oct. 27, 1937. (Class 41] Metals are given a corrosion resisting, highly polished chromium coating, by electrodepositing a layer of chromium, polishing it and then depositing a second layer of chromium which is not polished. The first layer is, e.g. 2 to 10 Á, and of greater thickness than the second layer which may be 0À05 to 0À5 Á. The bath for the first coating is chromic acid-sulphuric acid at 40 to 45‹ C., and to achieve brilliancy and adhesiveness of the second layer, the bath is raised to 54 to 56‹ C. or the articles being coated are heated.
