Abstract

502,757. Coil - winding apparatus. KURSTEINER, E. Dec. 30, 1937, No. 36162. Convention date, Jan. 6. [Class 35] A Gramme ring winding is wound in the slots 28 of an annular iron core 26 by means of a machine comprising a rotating magazine wheel 11 passing through the bore of the core and carrying the conductor 17 and insulating material 16; the core is adjustably supported as by clamps 22, 23 so that it can be rotated to apply the winding in consecutive slots. The magazine wheel has two grooves in its periphery for the reception of conducting and insulating materials in strip form and the bottoms of the grooves have rollers to enable the stored materials to run freely. The wheel is divided on the lines 12, 13 to enable it to be passed through the core, and is mounted on bearing rollers 7 ... 10a. The materials stored in the magazine wheel pass out through openings in the bottoms of the grooves and are pressed into position in the core slots by fingers 29 ... 32. Each of these fingers is actuated by cam &c. mechanism driven by the pulley 33 in such a manner that it follows and remains in contact with the conductor along one side of the core until the next finger in sequence comes into operation. At the end of its operative movement, and before returning to its initial position, each finger is moved out of the plane of the coil to avoid fouling the wire during the application of the next turn and is also moved outwards in the plane of the coil through a distance equal to the width of one layer of conducting material and one layer of insulating material. The core may be produced by winding an iron ribbon. Specification 440,571 is referred to.
