501,904. Feeding tubes to tube expanders &c. SINGER, F. Sept. 14, 1938, No. 26789. [Class 83 (iv)] In a feed mechanism for a tube expanding or other machine, a carriage g is reciprocated by levers c against the pressure of springs d. A collet j, positioned by simultaneously moved jaws h, grips and feeds the tube through balls or rollers n coacting with wedge surfaces q on the carriage. In a modification, Fig. 4, (not shown), cam-actuated gags apply pressure to the jaws and other cams effect the feeding. In a further modification inclined surfaces on the jaws h provide a clamping pressure normal to that of the jaws.
