Abstract
501,422. Washing textiles. POLLARD, C. T. Aug. 24,1937, No. 23227. [Class 15 (ii)] In a washing process in which the materials washed are first treated with a fatty acid component and then with an alkali component, the fatty acid component comprises an aqueous emulsion of a fatty acid (preferably oleio acid) together with methylcyclohexanol. Xylene, naphtha, or white spirit may also be present in the emulsion, and it is also advantageous to add thereto cyclohexylamine or monoethanolamine oleate. A solution of sodium metasilicate is preferably employed as alkali component. In an example, a fabric is first treated for 5 minutes in a rotary washing machine with an emulsion of fatty acids from olein, methylcyclohexanol (made by hydrogenating cresylic acid), naphtha and monoethanolamine oleate, sodium metasilicate solution is then added at a temperature of 160‹ F and the treatment is continued for 10 minutes. The fabric is then washed with dilute sodium metasilicate solution, boiled with a solution of sodium metasilicate and salt and rinsed. Specification 333,177, [Class 15 (i)], is referred to.
