Abstract

500,879. Windows and sun-blinds. WALKER, W. Aug. 14, 1937, No. 22405. [Class 20 (iii)] [Also in Group IV] Artificial sheet materials, reinforced over portions of their area by a textile fabric impregnated with the substance of the sheet materials, are made by depositing film-forming solution on a casting-bed, the surface of which is formed partly by a textile fabric and partly by a protective coating from which the sheet material may readily be removed. The filmforming solution may be coloured and the articles produced may be used as transparent sun-blinds. If the protective coating is applied sufficiently thin over portions of a textile fabric, the appearance of a textile fabric is imparted to the non-reinforced portions of the sheet material subsequently formed thereon. As shown in Fig. 1, a layer 3 of, e.g. cellulose acetate, is formed on a fabric provided, except for the margins 4, with a protective coating, e.g. of wax, gelatine, or ethyl cellulose. When the cellulose acetate layer has dried, the centre portion 1 of the fabric is stripped off leaving the cellulose, acetate sheet with marginal fabric reinforcement. Separation of the centre portion of the fabric from the margins is facilitated by providing a serrated line of cuts before application of the cellulose acetate layer. As shown in Fig. 4, the sheet material is provided with reinforcing strips across its width as well as at the margins, and it is thus divided into panels.
