Ornamenting.-Decorative effects applicable for use, for instance, in connection with panels, windows, furniture, interiors, and signs, are produced by arranging pieces of clear or opaque white or multicoloured g1ass, ge1atine. ce11u1oid, fabrics, paper, veneer. &c. in juxtaposition, with the addition, if desirable, of superposed pieces, to form a pattern, app1ying, as a foreground, background. or support a sheet so formed and apertnred that parts are of relatively 1arger superficial area and are shaped to assist in the decorative effect, whi1e the sheet also provides, where necessary or desirab1e, binding-means for the juxtaposed pieces. The binding-means may be supplemented by the use of separate strips applied to adjacent edges of the juxtaposed pieces. Where the pieces are made by gelatine, the gelatine may be subsequent1y hardened with formaldehyde vapour, chrome alum, &c. Further decoration similar to the above may be superimposed, or brush work may be applied. The design formed bv the composite sheet may be arranged between sheets of glass, celluloid, or other either rigid or flexible material, or a rigid support, and a f1exib1e cover of celluloid, ce11u1ose acetate, ge1atine, &c. may be provided. Lining to simu1ate the leads of painted glass windows or panels may be app1ied by means of a b1ack, white, gold, si1ver, co1oured, or other opaque material, or may be printed on the background or cover glass. Where pieces of ge1atine are employed to form the design, these may be affixed to a base by moistening the surface of the gelatine. In the case of other material, an adhesive or a solution having a slight solvent action may be used.
