Abstract

Polyvinyl halides, e.g. chloride, are plasticized with esters of polymerized ricinoleic acid, e.g. the ethyl and butyl esters; with esters of acetylated ricinoleic acid, e.g. the ethyl, butyl, and glyceryl esters; with esters of acetylated polymerized ricinoleic acid, e.g. the methyl and butyl esters. The products may be made into sheets or films. In examples, a mixture of polyvinyl chloride and acetylated castor oil is swollen in methyl amyl ketone, and rolled and pressed into sheets; films are prepared by dipping a glass sheet into a hot solution of polyvinyl chloride and acetylated castor oil in methyl amyl ketone or fenchone. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers also to plasticizing polyvinyl halides with esters of ricinoleic acid, e.g. the methyl, ethyl, butyl, and glyceryl esters. In an example, films are prepared from a fenchone solution of polyvinyl chloride and methyl ricinoleate. This subject - matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
