Abstract

Cables are covered with a lead-sheathing substitute consisting of polymerized vinyl chloride, after-chlorinated polyvinyl chloride or polymerized acrylic acid esters, or mixtures of polymers or interpolymers of these compounds, advantageously with the addition of softening agents, e.g. tricresyl phosphate, dimethyl phthalate, triacetin, benzophenone, urea substitution products, or mixtures thereof, and conducting or non-conducting fillers, e.g. graphite. Specifications 392,416, 398,225, and 407,718, [all in Group XXXVI], are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect 91 comprises the use of polymerization products of unsaturated organic compounds in general, and of conversion products of polyvinyl compounds. Additionally specified are: polyvinyl acetate, polystyrol, butadienecaoutchouc and mixtures of these substances with polyvinyl chloride, and also polyvinyl alcohol-aldehyde condensation products. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
