Abstract
499,625. Rubber labels. UNITED STATES RUBBER PRODUCTS, Inc. April 4, 1938, No. 10236. Convention date, April 3, 1937. [Class 70] Rubber labels are made by imprinting a plate 18, e.g. of thin aluminium, to form recesses 21, coating the plate with a rubber ink of such consistency that it does not enter the recesses, applying a layer of plastic rubber 14 of contrasting colour, and applying pressure to cause the backing to enter the recesses 21, and cohere with the ink 17. The label may be vulcanized and stripped from the plate as shown, and cemented to an article, or the plate with the rubber partly vulcanized may be pressed on the surface of an unvulcanized article, and the whole vulcanized together, the plate being subsequently stripped off. Alternatively, the inked plate may be embedded in the surface of an unvulcanized article, the material of the article providing the contrasting colour. The backing layer may be reinforced with fabric.
