499,289. Vehicle draw-gear. ZAVODY RINGHOFFER-TATRA AKCIOVA SPOLECNOST. July 14, 1938, No. 20940. Convention date, July 20, 1937. [Class 103 (v)] In order to permit a combined draw and steering bar for a trailer to make small lateral deviations without the latter being transmitted to the steering mechanism, springs or other shock-absorbing devices are incorporated in the draw-gear and must be stressed to a predetermined degree before transmitting the draw-bar displacements. In the arrangement shown, the gear comprises a draw-bar 1 to which is pivoted a two-armed cross-member 3, and telescopic connecting rods 4, 21 fitted with springs 6. On movement of the tractor pivot 19 to the right or left, the spring 6 on one side is tensioned, but transmits the movement to the trailer steering-gear 14, 15, 16 only if the deviation is sufficiently large. The ends of the rods 4, 21 operate in cylinders 5 fitted with pistons 22 and having the portions thereof remote from the springs 6 filled with oil. In a modification springs adapted to be compressed as the telescopic rod is shortened are employed.
