Abstract

499,264. Washing-machines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 1, 1938, No. 16406. Convention date, June 2, 1937. [Class 138 (ii)] The pump 56 for emptying the tub 1 of a washing-machine through pipes 73, 75 is secured to arms 55 pivotally mounted in brackets 49 secured to the underside of the casing 6 containing the gearing for driving the agitator shaft 10. A shaft 69 projects from the pump and carries a pulley 70 and the pump casing is provided with an operating lever 59 extending through a notched slot 63 in the skirt 3 of the machine. A spring 76 normally maintains the lever at the bottom of the slot and the pump with the pulley 70 out of engagement with the driving pulley 71 which is provided with a rubber rim. When the lever is raised, the pump is swung about the pivots 53 so that the pulley 70 engages the pulley 71. The operating lever is adjustably secured to the pump casing whereby the friction between the pulleys 70, 71 may be adjusted.
