498,683. Elastic-fluid turbines. OPPENHEIM, H. July 10, 1937, No. 19219. [Class 110 (iii)] An internal-combustion turbine, having the rotor shaft bearings 45, 46, 47 disposed at the end walls of the casing 2, has the members 8, 17 driven from the shaft I controlling the inlet and exhaust ports of the combustion chambers 4 mounted on ball bearings 14, 15. The rotor 3 and the hollow blades 24, 25 are cooled by a stream of air drawn in through the pipe 33 under centrifugal action. A disc 50 which is attached to the shaft 1 and acts as an oil screen, is so constructed that a cooling current of air is drawn through the bearing 47 and across the labyrinthine packing 52. Chambers 37, 38 and 39 are provided to convey cooling fluid to the combustion chambers, exhaust manifold and the casing walls adjacent the rotor bearings respectively. The parts 12, 42 of the casing supporting the bear. ings are made of heat-conducting light metal. The combustible mixture is fired by heated filaments energized by the moving contact 18.
