498,468. Inductive telephony. POLIAKOFF, J., and SNEATH, O. B. July 5, 1937, No. 18572. Drawings to Specification. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] Speech and other sounds are transmitted throughout a limited space such as an auditorium, particularly for deaf-aid purposes, by means of audio-frequency induction between a conducting loop system fed from a low frequency amplifier and a pick-up coil energizing a portable receiver. The pick-up coil is screened against electrostatic induction by slotted metallic discs. A carbon or condenser microphone may be connected in place of the pick-up coil for direct reception of sound, or a combination of the two inputs may be obtained by suitable switches or potentiometers. Radio receiving apparatus modified by incorporating therein a suitable pick-up coil connected for example to the gramophone pick-up terminals may be employed to receive the signals. The pick-up coil may be of large dimensions and low resistance and connected to the set through a suitable step-up transformer and may be placed at a distance from the set to avoid picking up mains hum.
