Abstract

498,080. Cartridge cases. GREENWOOD & BATLEY, Ltd., and MACLAGAN, J. C. M. Oct. 18, 1937, No. 28295. [Class 9 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] Relates to ammunition cartridge cases 1 of the kind made in the solid from light metal such as aluminium or alloys thereof, the base of the cartridge being reinforced by an external cover 4 of stronger metal, and the primer hole 2 being similarly reinforced by an internal sleeve 7. According to the invention, the sleeve 7 is first inserted in the primer hole and the cover 4 afterwards applied so as to bear against the outer end of the sleeve. The inner end of the sleeve is chamfered to bed into the soft metal and act as a gas seal.
