Abstract

In a fermentation process for the preparation of paper-pulp from bagasse and like fibres the shredded material is impregnated with a liquor containing bacteria cultured on or derived from the cellulosic material and a nutrient therefor. The bacteria culture may be obtained by sterilizing water with chlorine adding between 1/2 and 5 per cent of nutrient immersing a cellulosic material having nutrient thereon in the solution at blood heat and gradually lowering the temperature over a period of 14 days.
