Abstract

In making alloys of tungsten carbide and cobalt by a method wherein a powdered mixture is sintered in a non-oxidizing atmosphere, the sintering is effected while the mass is embedded in a mixture of carbon and a refractory substance such as alumina or zirconium oxide, the carbon content of such mixture being such as either to cause no carbonization or decarbonization of the product, or so to adjust its carbon content as to obtain a uniformly compact final product.
