[Class 9 (ii)] [Also in Group XXV] Apparatus for carrying and releasing bombs or other heavy bodies comprises a hook 2, for carrying the bomb &c., pivoted at 3 between plates 1 constituting the carrier, the hook 2 having an extension 5, with an arcuate arm 7, which is normally held in such a position as to cause the hook to retain the lug 6 of the bomb &c., by a roller 8 on an arm 9 pivoted at 10 and urged to locking position by a spring 12. An actuating lever 17 is pivoted at 15 to the arm 9 and is urged to inoperative position by a spring 20. A pin at the end of the lever 17 is adapted to engage with the arm 9 when the lever is operated by remote control mechanism, e.g. flexible wire, further movement of the lever raising the arm 9 and releasing the hook 2. A fixed detent 18 prevents the lever 17 from being lifted without being operated by the control gear. According to a modification, the load-carrying hook 22, Fig. 4, may be pivoted in the side plates 21 at 23 and may have a horizontal extension 25 with an arcuate face 37 and a surface 29 which is supported by a roller 28 on an arm 26 pivoted at 27 in the side plates. A bell-crank 31 urged in a clockwise direction by a spring 38 is coupled by a link 30 to the arm 26, and is adapted to be actuated, e.g. by a spring-plunger 33 controlled electrically or by a flexible wire mechanism to release the hook and bomb. The side-plates 21 and hook 22 may constitute a means for hoisting the bombs &c., a cable 39 passing over pulleys 40 and 41 and over a guide block 42 for this purpose and a detachable pin 43 being provided to lock the carrier in the aircraft when the bombs have been hoisted.
