496,093. Silencing gaseous currents. FRANCOIS CEMENTATION CO., Ltd. March 21, 1938, No. 8626. Addition to 484,641. [Class 7 (ii)] In means for suppressing the propagation of sound in air as described in the parent Specification, and comprising a series of yieldingly-mounted oscillating plates arranged in the current of air and connected to oscillation-dampers which convert the mechanical energy of the oscillations into heat or other inaudible form of energy, the plates are composed of a frame, for example of wood, on both sides of which are secured plates or boards of sheet iron, aluminium, or other material, forming an enclosed air space around the periphery of which damping-pads are provided, for example of cotton wool. The Figure shows a section of the frame a covered by plates b to form an air space c, around which the damping-pads d are arranged.
