Abstract

494,624. Washing-machines. COTTING- HAM, R. F. Nov. 9, 1937, No. 30703. [Class 138 (ii)] In a washing-machine wherein the agitator shaft 13 is oscillated and simultaneously reciprocated as by the action of a cam surface 14 as described in Specifications 354,575 and 465,272 a transmission gear between a motor housed in a casing 3 beneath the washing receptacle 2 and the shaft comprises a vertical shaft 1 driven by the motor through reduction gear and carrying a crank disc 8 connected by a rod 9 to the cross-bar 12 secured to the upper end of the shaft 13. The connecting rod may be removed to permit the cover 16 to be raised, and for this purpose the crank-pin 15 is rotatably mounted in the disc 8 and is bifurcated to receive one end of the rod 9 of which the other end 10 is hollowed out to receive a ball-shaped or tapered head of a pin 11 secured to the cross-bar 12. A shaft 6 for driving a wringer is also driven by the motor.
