Abstract
493,549. Foot-rests for use in vehicles. PIM, J. March 8, 1937, No. 6844. [Class 52 (ii)] A foot-rest for drivers of motor vehicles comprises a block of resilient material such as rubber, sponge-rubber or rubberized hair material, having a front portion 2 on which the heel of the driver's shoe rests, and an adjacent rear platform portion 1 extending transversely to accommodate the counter or heel-embracing portion of the shoe. Means such as a flap 4 with turnbuckles or press studs are provided for securing the rest, preferably in alternative positions. The riser portion 3 of the block is preferably inclined downwardly towards the pedals, and the rear part 18 may also be downwardly inclined. The underside of the block may have a strengthening layer of rough or patterned rubber sheet, carpet, canvas, plywood &c., and also with' gripping means such as spikes. The block may have a fixed or detachable covering of fabric, felt, leather &c., and part of the covering may form the flap 4. Alternative shapes are shown in Figs. 4 and 5 ; in these forms the flap 4 constitutes the front portion on which the heel rests.
