Description
M. STOOPES ROLLER SKATE Sept. 14 1926.
Filed M 7, 1926 Patented Sept. 14, 1926.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MAXWELL s roors, or ARMAGH, IR LAND.
ROLLER SKATE.
Application filed May 7, 1926, Serial No. 107,413, and in Great Britain February 23, 1928.
p side thereof carrying a spindle 3 on which is rotatably mounted a roller 4: having a solid or pneumatic tire 5. In the example shown the platform, or support 1 is less in length than the distance from the heel to the toe to of the shoe and it is disposed, or secured relatively to the shoe, so that the toe projects over the platform 1 for some distance, the heel being also partly projecting over the back of the platform or support and bear- 2 ing against the transverse projection or bar 8. The front and back of the platform 1 are more or less boat shaped, and a recess 6 is provided at the underside of the platform 1 to allow the roller 4 to turn freely.
' The front of the platform 1 may be provided with a pad of rnbber, or equivalent material 7.
The skate as described is designed so that the single roller 4: of the skate comes right below the point of balance, or the roller 4: where it bears on the ground forms the point of balance of the body of the user. The front of the platform 1 can be used as a brake and may also be used in conjunction with the toe of the shoe of the user when 4.0 walking with the skates on. I
The roller, or wheel 1 may be of different widths if desired, to suit the proficiency of theuser but the platform or support 1 preferably extends the width of the shoe.
Having now fully described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A roller skate comprising a foot-supporting platform from which the foot of the user projects backwardly and forwardly,,a recess in said platform,a single roller, on which said platform is mounted, working in said recess, and a pad on the fore end of said platform to be used as abrake.
2. A roller skate comprising a foot-supporting platform from which the foot of the user projects backwardly and forward ly, a transverse bar thereon against which the heel bears, a recess in said platform, a single roller, on which said platform is mounted, working in said recess, and a pad at the fore end of said platform to be used as a brake. I
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature. v
