Abstract

Rubber sheet with a tacky surface is separably adhered to a protective carrier sheet of smooth strong cloth or paper coated on at least the surface adjacent the tacky rubber with a lacquer composition consisting mainly of a plasticized organic ester of cellulose, plasticized cellulose ether, vinyl resin, or acryl resin. As organic ester of cellulose may be used the acetate, nitroacetate, acetobutyrate, tripropionate, or acetostearate; as cellulose ether may be used ethyl or benzyl cellulose; and as plasticizer, dibutyl phthalate, dibutyl tartrate, dimethyl phthalate, diamyl phthalate, ortho and para toluene ethyl sulphonamides, or methyl phthalyl ethyl glycollate. Benzene, toluene or alcohol may be used as diluents. In an example of a lacquer composition is specified low or medium viscosity cellulose acetate 7 to 8 parts, plasticizer &c. 4,8 to 5,0 parts, solvent mixture about 87 parts. Cellulose nitrate may be used with cellulose acetate.ALSO:Rubber sheet with a tacky surface is separably adhered to a protective carrier sheet of smooth strong cloth or paper coated on at least the surface adjacent the tacky rubber with a lacquer composition consisting mainly of a plasticized organic ester of cellulose, plasticized cellulose ether, vinyl resin, or acryl resin. Benzene, toluene or alcohol may be used as diluents. In an example of a lacquer composition is specified low or medium viscosity cellulose acetate 7 to 8 parts, plasticizer &c. 4,8 to 6,0 parts, solvent mixture about 87 parts. Cellulose nitrate may be used with cellulose acetate. The composition may be applied by a bath, by spreading, or by spraying, and if both sides are lacquered it may increase the weight of the material by 0,014 lb. per sq. yard.
