Abstract

492,899. Piston - rings. OUBRIDGE, W. A. March 30, 1937, No. 8959. [Class 122 (i)] Piston-rings comprising an outer ring and inner ring together forming a flat spiral has the inner ring formed of material or so shaped that it has a greater resiliency than the outer ring. The complete ring may be formed of mild steel, the inner part being hardened and tempered ; or may be of hard steel, the temper being drawn from the outer ring. Alternatively different materials are used for the two parts, the ends being united as by welding. The compound ring is composed of a plain outer ring c united at f to an inner ring d, which may be plain and back up against the outer ring or be of wave form the crests of which back against the outer ring and the troughs against the piston or against a shim ring e. The ring e may be separate from or be formed as a continuation of the ring d, and it may consist of more than one convolution.
