Abstract

492,678. Memorandum appliances. STANDARD REGISTER CO. March 24, 1937, No. 8730. Convention date, May 28, 1936. [Class 16] [Also in Groups XVI and XX] In strip-feeding arrangements for use in autographic registers or other apparatus and comprising pins co-operating with holes in the strip to impart a substantial feed-movement at each operation, the pins engage the holes loosely during a substantial part of the movement, and closely during the remaining part. Close engagement may occur in both the longitudinal and transverse directions, or in the longitudinal direction only. Loose engagement of the pins compensates for irregularities in the spacing of the holes and facilitates engagement and disengagement, and close engagement positions the strip accurately at predetermined intervals. Preferably, the pins are in close engagement at the end of the movement and serve to hold the strip stationary while it is receiving entries. When superposed strips of paper, with or without interleaved carbon &c. strips are employed, the strips are relatively moved into register during loose engagement of the pins. In the autographic register shown in Fig. 3, a shaft 13 is provided with pin-wheels 12 each having conical pins 14 for loosely engaging holes in a strip 5, and a larger pin 16 which, after one revolution of the shaft, engages a hole and holds the strip stationary on the' writing plate 2. If a shorter feed-movement is required, the shaft is turned through a halfrevolution at each operation, and the pinwheels are provided with diametrically-opposite pins 16. If the pin-wheels have an odd number of pins, a pair of adjacent pins 16 is arranged diametrically-opposite another pin 16. Instead of employing pins of different sizes, the strip 5, Fig. 8, may be provided with large and small holes 6, 6a for co-operation with pins of uniform size.
