Abstract

492,675. Plywood. MORTIMER, C. J., and LEABANK CHAIRS, Ltd. March 24, 1937, No. 8710. [Class 145 (ii)] [Also in Group XIV] Load-supporting members of tables, chairs and like articles of furniture formed of multi-ply wood have an upper continuous ply B, a lower ply G, and an intermediate ply C of pre-formed material having portions D substituted by portions of a stronger material by which the members are supported by legs F, frames, or the like, the plies being glued together. As shown the metal legs are of U-shape the web E fitting in the cut-out portions D of the intermediate ply C and the legs F passing through slots H in the lower ply. In a modification the intermediate ply is formed of three separate sections separated by strips of metal extended beyond the edges of a seat, bent downwards and welded to a tubular frame or provided with holes and bolted to the frame. The portions of stronger material may be of Z-shape with one flange interposed in the plies and the other forming a lug to which a leg or other support is secured, or may provide a channel which, with the surface of the adjacent ply, forms a slot in which the leg is secured.
