Abstract
492,366. Coin - freed apparatus. STANBRIDGE, H. Feb. 18, 1937, No. 1676/36. [Class 27] Testing coins.-The upper face of a coin inserted through a slot a<2> engages a finger bl of a pivoted lever B carrying a pair of pins b2 normally locking a pair of fingers c, pivoted at c<1> on either side of the slot, and blocking the coin passage' by their tips c<3>. A coin of sufficient thickness raises the lever B and pins b<2> sufficiently to free the fingers c which are thrust aside by the coin. The rim of the coin on insertion displaces a pair of fingers E turning with levers F whose bevelled rear ends depress a bar G connected by a pin g<1> with a lever D having a downturned end d<1> serving to block the entrance of under-diameter coins. If the coin is of full diameter, the end dl of the lever D is raised sufficiently to clear the coin. Coin action, weight and multiple coin.-The fingers c close, under spring action, behind an accepted coin and draw it over an aperture H in a fixed plate through which it falls onto a pivoted spring-actuated flap. When two coins have been inserted, their weight tilts the flap and they fall edgewise into a shoot L. The base of the shoot is formed by a projection m<1> on a sliding wall M which is normally held in a raised position by a spring contact blade beneath. The weight of the coins depresses the shoot wall M and base m<1> to close the contact and energize an electromagnet operating the delivery mechanism. In its lower position, the wall M clears an aperture L<3> in the opposite fixed wall of the shoot so that it immediately rocks inwardly to release the coins, the contact then raising it to its original position and breaking the circuit. Articles stored in piles.-The articles are stored in a vertical pile over a delivery drawer W which is connected by a rack V, gearing T, and a rack S with the armature of the electromagnet. The open front of the drawer is covered by a pivoted flap X locked by engagement of a pin x<1> with a spring-loaded catch Y. The momentary energization of the electromagnet causes the drawer to be thrust out, the catch Y being lowered out of locking engagement with the flap X as a tooth y<1> passes out of an aperture w<2> in the drawer. The drawer is held open against the 'action of a return spring by engagement of a notch w<1> therein with the tooth y<1> of the catch. When the article is removed from the drawer, the flap X falls and its pin x<1> depresses the catch to release the drawer which consequently closes.
