Abstract

To remove salts from boiler feed-water or other industrial water the water is passed successively through hydrogen base-exchange material and a metal oxide gel charged with hydroxyl ions. Gels of oxide of iron, copper chromium, manganese or aluminium, or natural products, such as limonite, chamosite, hausmannite or certain bauxites, which have been charged with hydroxyl ions by treatment with alkaline solution, may be used.
