Abstract

Dyestuffs of the phthalocyanine series are made by heating a halogenated phthalocyanine with aliphatic mercaptans or mercaptans of the benzene or naphthalene series at 250-350 DEG C., for about 15 hours so that the final product contains at least one radicle of a mercaptan. Diluents may be used. The colour of the products is displaced towards green. In examples: (1)-(3) chlorinated copper phthalocyanine is heated with thiophenol, p-thiocresol or b -thionaphthol in presence of xylene, potassium hydroxide and copper meal; naphthalene or alkylnaphthalenes may also be used as diluents; (4) tetrachlorcopperphthalocyanine is heated in a -methylnaphthalene in presence of copper powder with sodium dodecylmercaptan (from dissolution of sodium in the reaction product from dodecyl bromide and alcoholic sodium sulphide); hexyl or decyl mercaptan or the mercaptan made by heating the bromide of the hydrocarbon mixture corresponding to palm kernel fatty acids with alcoholic sodium sulphide may also be used; (5) highly chlorinated copperphthalocyanine is heated with the sodium compounds of the mercaptans derived from palm kernel fatty acids in quinoline in presence of copper powder; the product is soluble in benzene, toluene, xylene or halogen benzenes and may be used for colouring nitrocellulose lacquers; dodecylmercaptan may also be used.
