Abstract
<PICT:0491945/III/1> <PICT:0491945/III/2> In a method of producing a crystalline substance in a sandy form of low water-content, a solution is evaporated in a vessel 1 and stirred. Helical blades 7, 8, 10, and 11 of opposite twist effect the stirring and the vessel may be heated by gas burners or a jacket for heating fluid. The stirring blades sweep closely over the walls of the vessel and project above the material in the vessel. Air, nitrogen, carbon dioxide or steam may be admitted to the vessel and is then stirred into the mass by the blades. The apparatus may be of double trough form and have two parallel shafts bearing stirring blades.
