Abstract
491,906. Making hollow glass blocks. CLEMO, F. A. (Owens-Illinois Glass Co.) Sept. 9, 1937, No. 24594. [Class 56] A hollow glass block containing air under low pressure is made by placing in a mould a gather of glass 21 with an enclosed air pocket 22, and then exhausting air from the mould so that the enclosed air expands the glass to fill the mould. Air can be exhausted from the mould through tubes 10, 11, 12 passing through the cover and sides, and connected to suitable suction apparatus, or the mould can be placed in a vacuum chamber.
