Abstract
283,099. Minton, O. March 26, 1926, [Convention date]. Divided on 268,391, [Class 34 (i), Drying gases &c.]. Stuffing-boxes, substitutes . for.-In vacuum apparatus having rolls 1, 2, 3 for sealing the entrance and exit of the vacuum chamber, the peripheries of the rolls 1, 2 are packed by liquid seals 18, and a bearing-ring 28 carried by the framing 4 is resiliently pressed against a ring 21<a>, detachably secured to each end of the rolls 1, 2. The ring 28 may be housed in a groove in the framing 4 and be pressed towards the ring 21<a> by an inflated rubber tube, or by sblid or sponge rubber. Alternatively, the ring 28 together with a resilient ring 30 may be mounted on a ring 29 secured to the framing 4.
