Abstract
2638. Davis, R. H., and Siebe, Gorman, & Co. Feb. 1. Respirators. - In apparatus employed by persons working in irrespirable atmospheres, or under water, the caustic soda or potash for absorbing the carbonic acid gas is arranged on trays or drawers g sliding in a chamber a, which is provided with a hinged door c. The door is provided with a lining of rubber &c., and is pressed against the ends of the trays so as to form an air-tight joint. Gaps l, Fig. 3, are provided at alternate ends of the trays so that the gas is caused to take a tortuous path over the caustic alkali. The chamber a is provided with grooves or fillets k for holding the trays, and with inlet and outlet fittings c, f for the gas. The absorbing-material is kept in position by gauze covers i, Fig. 3.
