Abstract

The mask used in therapy, anaesthesis, etc. has an open-sided chamber into which the nose fits. a flange (48) runs round the edge of the chamber (30), and has a strip fixed to it, extending into the open side so as to form a nose opening between itself and the flange. The chamber is of relatively stiff material, while flange and strip are of relatively flexible material, so that it can be held against the face with the strip between the nose and the upper lip to form a seal. Chamber, flange and strip can be in one piece, and there can be a union on the pipe for a respirator hose. The chamber can be large enough to fit over both nose and mouth.
