[Also in Group XXVIII] Channelling of air through a granular filter bed of a face mask (not shown) is prevented by lining the side wall 1 of the casing with soft impervious material e.g. rubber into which adjacent granules e.g. of charcoal are pressed by virtue of the tightness of thin packing. The granules are held at the inlet ends of the casing by perforated plates 5, 8.
