Abstract

491,442. Electric clocks. LANFRANCONI, F. A., and BRITISH VACUUM CLEANER & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Jan. 27, 1937, Nos. 2401 and 16476. [Class 139] In an electric clock of the type in which movement of the balance is maintained by an electromagnet energized intermittently under the control of a contact device actuated bv the balance, the electromagnet is arranged to drive the clock train through the medium of a separate oscillating member mechanically independent of the balance. An electromagnet 8 has two pairs of polepieces 10-13 and is mounted between two independent, hairspring-controlled, armatures 15, 27. The armature 15, by causing the bridging of two contacts 20 at each oscillation, gives intermittent energization to the electromagnet 8, while the armature 27, oscillating in sympathy with the magnetic impulses, actuates the clock train through a step-by-step mechanism. The hair-spring 16 tends to cause the contacts to be closed and, consequently, the clock is self-starting. Specification 491,487 is referred to.
