[Class 18] Towelling from a roll 2, Fig. 2, in a cabinet can be drawn out until arrested by stop mechanism which is released after a definite timing period which follows the tearing off of the protruding portion of towelling against a spring- pressed, pivoted knife 40. The towelling passes over a roller 20 which carries a pivoted catch 57 and a link 52, the latter having a pin-and-slot connection with the roller at one end and a pivoted connection with a lever 48 at the other. As the roller rotates, the link raises the lever 48 until a shoulder 47 on a cam surface on the roller abuts against a shoulder 50 on the lever 48 and stops the roller. During this movement, the lever 48 has also raised an angle member 60 and the catch 57 has moved round until, at the moment of arrest, the catch engages under the horizontal lip of member 60 and prevents the stop mechanism from disengaging. The catch 57 is connected to the pivoted knife by a link 62 so that, as the former is moved during the tearing off of the protruding piece of towelling, the catch is released, the member 60 drops ever so slightly, and the timing period commences. The member 60 carries a vacuum cup 78 which, when the member is raised, engages a fixed vacuum cup 80, the latter having an air intake and an adjustable valve 87 whereby the apparatus is not released after the catch 57 is withdrawn until after a certain interval has elapsed. Instead of two vacuum cups, one cup operating against a plate may be used. The spindle of roller 20 carries an arm 70 of which the free end is connected by a spring 72 to a fixed part of the cabinet and, at the moment when the stop mechanism comes into operation, the spring is under tension. When the stop mechanism releases, the spring pulls down arm 72 to give a slight rotation to roller 20 and thereby feed out a small piece of towelling which can be grasped to pull out more. The end of the timing period is indicated by a bell 95 which is actuated by the member 60 as it drops. A spring-pressed roller 27 keeps the towelling in contact with the roller 20, and the latter may be rotated by a crank as well as by a pull on the protruding piece of towelling. For emergency purposes a small portion of towelling can be protruded by depressing a lever 101, Fig. 7, the latter being formed with teeth which, on the downward stroke, engage the teeth on a ratchet wheel 100 on the spindle of roller 20.
