1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in advertising and dispensing devices and has particu lar reference to a device for dispensing paper towels and toilet paper.
The principal object of this invention is to produce a dispensing device that will function during the dispensing of the towels as a novel advertising medium wherein different advertising indicia displayed on the towels may be repeatedly and successively brought into view during the dispensing operation.
A further object is to produce a device wherein a single towel may be dispensed from a stack positioned within a cabinet.
A still further object is to produce a device wherein advertising printed upon the towels may be viewed from the outside of the cabinet.
A further object is to provide means whereby the towels may be readily arranged within the cabinet ready for successive use.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my device,
Figure 2 is a side elevation of Fig. 1,
Figure 3 is an enlarged detail view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 4,
Figure 4 is an enlarged detail view taken on the line 44 of Fig. 1,
Figure 5 is a fragmentary detail view showing the manner in which the paper towels are supported,
Figure 6 is a fragmentary bottom view showing one of the dispensing rollers,
Figure 7 is a cross-sectional view taken on the line '7-7 of Fig. 6, and
Figure 8 is a cross-sectional view taken on the line 8-8 of Fig. 3.
Paper towels are usually folded so that the withdrawing of one paper towel will cause the end of the next succeeding towel to project beneath a Applicant has produced a cabinet wherein the towels are held in pad formation and vertically arranged to the rear of a glass plate, and as a result, advertising matter carried upon the face of the towel will be exhibited thru the Applicant has provided means whereby a single towel may be dispensed at a time.
In the accompanying drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates the back of the cabinet which is secured to the supporting surface, such as a wall, in any convenient manner. Hinged as at 6 is a box-like structure consisting of the bottom 7, sides 8 and 9, top 10 and front'frame 11. A glass plate 12 is w supported in the frame 11. A slot 13 permits the sheets of paper to be dispensed from within the device thru the medium of a roller 14. This roller is covered with an abrasive material which will firmly grip the top sheet of paper A. In order to prevent the roller 14 from moving in a retrograde direction, I provide a ratchet 16 which is secured to the shaft of the roller 14 and has a spring pressed dog 17 held in engagement therewith, Handles 18 are provided at each end of 0 the roller whereby the same may be rotated. The sheets of paper are supported from a wedge shaped pin 19 and are pressed forward so as to engage the roller 14 by a pusher plate 21 which is slidable upon a plurality of guide rods 22. 5 Springs 23 extend between the back 5 and the plate 21. In order to hold the plate 21 against the tension of the spring 23 while a new supply of towels is being placed upon the pin 19, a catch 24 engages the hooked end 26 carried upon the bottom of the plate 21. A bracket 27 carried upon the bottom 7 comes into contact with the latch 24 when the box-like structure is swung from the dotted line position of Fig. 4 to the full line position; thus releasing the plate and forcing the same against the roller 14. It is obvious that when the handles 18 are grasped and rotated in the proper direction, that the rollers 14 will act upon the sheet of paper A and will pull the same off from the pin 19 which is accomplished by a v tearing which is further facilitated bythe fact that the pin 19 has a sharp cutting edge as best illustrated in Fig. 5.
It will thus be seen that sheets will be individually removed and that the advertising matter carried upon the sheets will be visible thru the glass plate. 1
From the foregoing description considered in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be obvious that I have provided, (1), a sanitary device because the paper towels and the like are enclosed in a dust proof container; (2), an economical device because the dispenser is so constructed that it will release only one sheet at a time; (3), a practical device because the apparatus combines the feature of a novel advertising medium and a free paper towel and toilet paper dispenser; (4), a most useful device because my type of dispenser eliminates waste and abuse of sanitary paper products making the free delivery of these products available to the general public and reducing the expense in connection with the free delivery; (5), stimulates trade through the various advertising notices successively disclosed; and (6), because the advertising message displayed being in constant view serves as a powerful and compelling appeal to the buying public.
While I have specified the idea of successively bringing into View varied advertising indicia on the paper products dispensed, it is neverthelessthe invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention I claim:
In a device of the character described, a boxlike structure having a window formed therein, guide rods in said box-like structure, a pusher plate positioned within said box-like structure slidable upon said guide rods, a roller carried by said box-like structure and adapted to contact a sheet of paper carried on said pusher plate whereby said paper may be projected from said boxlike structure, means for supporting said sheets on said plate, said means including a wedge shaped pin extending thru the upper edge of said sheets and means for holding said plate in retracted position while said sheets are being placed upon said pin, including a hook carried by the pusher plate and a latch engaging the hooked extremity thereof and means for releasing said latch from said hooked extremity when said boxlike structure is in closed position.
