Abstract
Tertiary aliphatic amines are produced by a modification of the process described in the parent Specification by leading, in the vapour phase, aliphatic aldehydes, containing at the most 6 carbon atoms, secondary aliphatic amines, each alkyl group of which contains at the most 6 carbon atoms, and hydrogen over hydrogenation catalysts at elevated temperatures. Dehydrating agents may be mixed with the catalysts. In examples (1) acetaldehyde and diethylamine, (2) n-butyraldehyde and di-n-butylamine, (3) acetaldehyde and di-n-butylamine are passed with hydrogen at 120 DEG C. over a nickel catalyst to yield triethylamine, tri-n-butylamine and ethyl-di-n-butylamine respectively.
