Abstract

490,957. Moulding toffee &c. FORGROVE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., and HARRIS, R. A. April 13, 1937, No. 10498. [Class 87 (ii)] In apparatus for shaping and feeding plastic material such as toffee along a tortuous path or guideway, as set out in Specification 399,869, the guideway lies between inner and outer moving surfaces, one or each or a part whereof is separable or displaceable relatively to the guideway to facilitate cleaning. The material 1 is formed into a rope by rollers 2 and is fed along a stationary spiral guideway 4 by an inner rotating drum 3 and an outer moving surface formed by an endless band or a number of rotating rollers 33 carried in curved arms 34 which can be swung about a shaft 14 to permit access to the spiral 4 for cleaning. The rollers 33 have sprockets mounted on their trunnions and are driven by an endless chain 39 from the shaft 14. The drum 3 is rotated by gearing from the shaft 14 which is driven from a motor 22. The arms 34 are retained in position by removable pins 36. The rollers 33 may be grooved or serrated or of stepped formation to enter the guideway 4. Two or more ropes of material may be fed simultaneously, a double or corresponding spiral being provided.
