Abstract

490,951. Type printing telegraphs. GRIFFITH, R. G. Feb. 26, 1937, No. 5900. [Class 40 (iii)] The case shift and other auxiliary mechanism of a printing telegraph receiver is operated by selecting means, separate from that used for type selection, in the form of a pack of combination plates. Pins 13 are fitted in extensions 19 of the selector members used for type selection and each may move laterally a corresponding one of a pack of plates, slidable in a casing 14. The plates, Fig. 2 (not shown), are provided with a number of holes certain of which, when a suitable signal is received, are moved into register with each other so allowing a projection 24b on an arm 24, pivoted at 25, to pass through them when, by means of an arm 28, it is lowered by a cam 1b rotating with a shaft 1. The plates are separated by thin washers threaded on pins and engaging the plates only at one side of the pins. The printing operation is effected by a lever 6 being struck by a pivoted arm 5 carried on a bell crank 2 operated by a cam 1a on the shaft 1. The printing mechanism is rendered inoperative when an auxiliary function is to be performed by a lug 31b depressing the arm 5 against the action of its spring 34 when the lever 31 follows the arm 24 downwards. The clockwise movement of the bell-crank 2, when moved by its cam la, is, however, communicated to the auxiliary mechanism by forcing the lug 31b to the right and so operating a link 26 to move about its pivot 25. Specification 441,090 is referred to.
